Granted I don't know what sort of palette limitations you have to work with, so I apologize if this isn't feasible. Even Super Metroid used a fairly bright lava layer as well. The way the transparency effect is applied (additive I assume), it makes it seem like it's glowing. I feel like that's the one exception to the rule that seems to look better when it's colored brightly. Quote from: Granville on July 04, 2023, 02:53:49 PMThis is looking fantastic! The only thing i'd recommend is to exclude the layer of lava from the edits. I really like the look of Samus's armor in the menus! I doubt my work will be compatible with that particular ROMhack, but if its authors like my final product and approached me about it, I wouldn't hesitate to work on an update of Zero Mission Redux. Super Metroid colors plus Zero Mission Redux would make the game perfect. Quote from: ARPEGIUS on July 03, 2023, 08:02:46 PMA dream come true. Aside from the background of Samus's intro (which is meant to transition rather seemingly into the gameplay), and the Metroids upon their first introduction (fortunately, these are the exact same sprites and palettes as the regular Metroids you do battle with), it looks like far too much of a headache. One thing I will likely not be changing is the individual cut scenes. I have not tested it with any other hacks or patches, but I imagine that as long as any data regarding color palettes, sprites, tiles or background are unchanged, it should be compatible. This project is about 85% complete, and I expect to release it before the end of the current month. But I did not make these changes lightly and I largely stand by them. I'm not sure what else to call this project besides "Color Improvement" - although it is certainly meant to be so, some objects are straight up given colors that differ from the original intent. Here is an example of what I have done so far: My newest project, an edit of Metroid: Zero Mission's color palettes, is an attempt to give the game a subtler, darker and generally tangible atmosphere, more suitable to be played on modern monitors, and with the aesthetics of Super Metroid particularly in mind.
